The purpose of the test is to evaluate blood flow to your legs. This non-invasive test enables your cardiologist to determine if there is any narrowing or restriction of an artery or blood vessel that reduces blood flow, how serious the blockage is and exactly where it is located. This test is done by measuring blood pressure at the ankle and in the arm while a person is at rest.

What will happen during the test?

The stress technician will start by taking or reviewing your medical history. You will be asked to lie on your back while standard blood pressure cuffs are placed around your ankles and arms. The cuffs will be inflated and a small ultrasound probe will be placed against the leg. As the cuffs are deflated waveforms will be documented assessing blood flow.

What is the preparation for the test?

Please wear loose baggy shorts.

If you routinely take any medications take them as prescribed.

What should I bring with me for the test?

Once your appointment has been scheduled it is very important that you keep that appointment. If you are unable to keep the appointment, you must give the office at least 24 hours notice that you will not be there. Please contact us at the phone number above. Who will give me the test results?

After a review of the test, your medical history, other imaging modalities and previous tests by a Legacy Heart Center cardiologist, a report will be sent to the ordering physician. The ordering physician will then review the results and discuss them with you.
