Jose M. Rivera, M.D.

Jose M. Rivera, M.D., who has been with Legacy Heart Center since December of 2002, was named as a “Texas Super Doctor” by Texas Monthly Magazine in 2007, 2008 and 2009. "Texas Super Doctors" are chosen through a poll of doctors and nurses across the state as well as through independent research.

In addition to being board certified in cardiovascular diseases and internal medicine, Dr. Rivera is also certified in echocardiography and nuclear cardiology and is one of several Legacy Heart Center doctors who specialize in non-invasive vascular imaging.

Non-invasive imaging is a relatively painless procedure that does not involve needles or injections and is used to diagnose blockage or disease in the arteries and veins. It is also used to monitor patients who have had arterial reconstructions and bypass surgery, to detect abnormalities in the arterial blood flow and to detect venous disease.

He currently serves on the Pharmacy, Nutrition, and Therapeutics Committee at Texas Health Presbyterian-Plano and is active in the medical community as a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American Society of Echocardiography and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.

Dr. Rivera is bilingual in English and Spanish and is involved in Hispanic community outreach efforts, including volunteering at the Collin County Adult Clinic in East Plano.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Natural Sciences degree from Johns Hopkins University and his MD degree from the University of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine. He served an internship and residency in internal medicine at Temple University and completed a fellowship in cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Dr. Rivera is married and has two children.
