David Prewitt, M.D., F.A.C.C.
David Prewitt, M.D., F.A.C.C., is a specialist in interventional cardiology and coronary and peripheral vascular intervention. He is one of five cardiologists at Legacy who perform percutaneous coronary revascularization, which reestablishes blood flow to the heart when vessels have been damaged or blocked. In 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 he was named a "Texas Super Doctor" by Texas Monthly. "Texas Super Doctors" are chosen through a poll of doctors and nurses across the state as well as through independent research.
Dr. Prewitt is one of a select few physicians nationwide using a new medical devicethe Pioneer Catheterthat is an alternative to invasive bypass surgery of the leg. Unlike traditional by-pass surgery, patients treated using the new device have no surgical incision to heal and can go home the same day the procedure is performed.
Board certified in cardiology, Dr. Prewitt is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Collin County Medical Society, the American College of Cardiology and the International Society of Endovascular Specialists. He previously served as chief of cardiology at the Medical Center of Plano.
He completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular medicine at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South in Houma, Louisiana in 1995. Previously he served as Chief Fellow in Cardiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he also completed his fellowship in cardiology and an internal medicine residency. He received his MD Degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Texas Christian University.
