Waenard L. Miller, M.D., F.A.C.C.
Dr. Miller is a co-founder of Legacy Heart Center.
He was named as a "Texas Super Doctor" by Texas Monthly in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. "Texas Super Doctors" are chosen through a poll of doctors and nurses across the state as well as through independent research.
Dr. Miller decided to become a physician during graduate
training in nuclear physics at Oak Ridge National Labs in
Tennessee when he realized that he wanted to go in a different
direction with his career.
"After considerable searching, I found that most areas
of cardiology were, in fact, related to physics, from the
mechanisms of the heart pumping blood around the body to
the imaging of the blood flow to the heart muscle with nuclear
markers. It seemed like a good fit in the 1970s, and I can
say some 35 years later that cardiology was exactly the
right choice for me."
Dr. Miller began practicing medicine in Collin County in
1983 after receiving his Fellowship in Cardiology at U.T.
Southwestern Medical School. In 1995, he and David Schwartz,
M.D., F.A.C.C., joined their practices together to create
Texas Regional Heart Center, the forerunner of Legacy Heart
Center.
"I am most proud of the part I played in building this cardiology practice over 2 decades from one person to our current practice of 15 cardiologists, who provide quality and leading-edge cardiovascular care to our patients."
A frequent lecturer to physician and patient groups on
heart-related issues, Dr. Miller has served in leadership
roles for the American Heart Association and the American
College of Cardiology and is recognized as a Fellow by both
organizations. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor
Medical Society. He has also served on the Board of Trustees
of the Baylor Health Care System.
Previously, he has served as Chief of Cardiology, Director
of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Secretary of the
Medical Staff at the Medical Center of Plano.
Dr. Miller is board certified in Internal Medicine and
Cardiovascular Disease and specializes in preventative cardiology
and the treatment of elevated cholesterol, high blood pressure,
coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure.
He received his MD degree from the Medical University of
South Carolina and completed his Internal Medicine Residency
and his Fellowship in Cardiology at U.T. Southwestern Medical
School. He also holds Master of Science degrees in nuclear
physics, biology and medical management.
