New Physician Joins Staff at Legacy Heart Center
PLANO, Texas - Srini P. Potluri, M.D. has joined Legacy Heart Center, a leading cardiology practice in Collin County.
Dr. Potluri joins Legacy from the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana where he was Chief Interventional Fellow and was on the Foundation’s interventional staff. He received fellowships in cardiology, interventional cardiology and heart failure and cardiac transplantation at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation as well.
Along with cornary and peripheral intervention, he specializes in carotid stenting and the closure of the atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale. Both procedures are innovative stroke prevention strategies that provide patients minimally invasive alternatives to surgery. Currently, Carotid stenting provides patients who are a high risk for surgery an alternative to the carotid endarterectomy procedure. The closure of the atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale provides patients with an alternative to open heart surgery. Because both procedures are less invasive than traditional surgeries, patients are usually discharged the next day.
Dr. Potluri is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, nuclear cardiology and interventional cardiology. He is also certified in vascular medicine and CT (computed tomography) angiography.
Prior to his work at Ochsner, he served as a Chief Resident at New York Methodist Hospital Cornell Medical Center, where he was named resident of the year for 1999-2000. He received his medical degree from Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India and served internships at Methodist Hospital and Osmania General Hospital, where he was named as best intern.
He has received the Charles B. Moore Research Award for outstanding research achievement from the Department of Cardiology at Ochsner; a certificate for scholarly achievement from the department of Internal Medicine; and a Certificate of Merit from the Physician Alumni Association at Methodist Hospital.
Dr. Potluri has also headed a medical camp that was organized by the Lion’s Club to provide assistance to earthquake victims in Lathur, India in 1993.
He is the author of several manuscripts and abstracts in cardiology.
Legacy Heart Center’s 15 cardiologists and more than 100 other health and administrative professionals provide patients with a comprehensive array of cardiovascular diagnostic, testing and treatment services at its Preston Road facility. The cardiology practice has been in operation for more than 20 years, and also serves patients at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano, Presbyterian Hospital of Plano and Medical Center of McKinney.
