Legacy Heart Center Names Marc S. Shalek, M.D. As New Managing Partner
PLANO, Texas (Jan. 31, 2008) -- The board of directors of Legacy Heart Center have appointed Marc S. Shalek, M.D., as managing partner of the Collin County cardiology practice. Dr. Shalek, who joined Legacy Heart Center in 1998, succeeds Waenard Miller, M.D., F.A.C.C., who served as managing partner since 1997.
“I have been honored to help guide Legacy as it grew to become the leading cardiology practice in Collin County,” said Dr. Miller, “and Marc’s appointment ensures our continued growth and success.”
Legacy Heart Center was formed more than 20 years ago, when Dr. Miller and David A. Schwartz, M.D., F.A.C.C., combined their practices to create the Texas Regional Heart Center. The practice was renamed Legacy Heart Center in 2003.
It has grown from two doctors 20 years ago to today’s staff of 15 physicians and more than 100 other health and administrative professionals who provide care for about 30,000 patients annually.
“I’m truly honored to be asked by my peers to help steer the continued growth of our practice,” said Dr. Shalek, “and I intend to build on our established reputation as the leaders in providing the people of Collin County with the most comprehensive array of cardiac diagnostic testing and treatment services available.”
Dr. Shalek is a specialist in diagnostic and preventive cardiology and also serves as the Director of Legacy Heart Center's Congestive Heart Failure Clinic.
He has been named to D Magazine's list of the "Best Doctors in Dallas" in 2004 and 2007 was named a "Texas Super Doctor" by Texas Monthly magazine in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
In addition to being board certified in cardiology, Dr. Shalek is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is active in the medical community as a member of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology and is a frequent lecturer to both physician and patient groups on heart attack prevention and the diagnosis and management of heart problems.
Dr. Shalek received his Bachelor of Science degree from The College of William and Mary and his M.D. degree from New York Medical College. He served his residency in internal medicine and received his fellowship in cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.
