Marcus E. McKenzie, M.D Joins Staff at Legacy Heart Center
PLANO, Texas (October 02, 2006) - Marcus E. McKenzie, M.D., has joined Legacy Heart Center, a leading
cardiology practice in Collin County.
Previously, Dr. McKenzie served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.,
where he was responsible for inpatient consultation and cardiology services. He is board certified in internal medicine,
cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology and has a special interest in acute coronary syndromes and cardiac critical care.
He also specializes in diagnostic cardiac catheterization and transesophageal echocardiography. Cardiac catheterization uses
a long thin tube called a catheter that is placed in a blood vessel and then guided to the heart to allow a cardiologist to see
an outline of the coronary arteries and more precisely determine the extent of blockages in these vessels. Transesophageal
echocardiography is a diagnostic test that uses an ultrasound device that is passed into the esophagus of the patient to create
a clear image of the heart muscle and other parts of the heart.
Dr. McKenzie received his Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Texas in 1993 and his medical degree from the University
of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1998, where he was on the Dean’s List from 1994-1997.
He served his internship and residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins University Sinai Hospital, where he also served as
Chief Resident in 2002. While at Johns Hopkins he served on the Sinai Hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and the Clinical
Competency Committee He received his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Georgetown University’s Washington Hospital Center, in 2005.
He was the recipient of the Hury Cancer Scholarship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1994 and the Jack Wallace Prize in
Cardiology from the University of Texas in 1997and was named the Outstanding Junior and Senior Resident at John Hopkins University in
2000 and 2001.
He was also the Sinai Hospital Resident Research Symposium Winner for a paper entitled "Monitoring Platelet Inhibition with oral
Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Inhibitors: Are We Missing Something?" Additionally, he has published several peer reviewed articles in Cardiology,
BioDrugs, Thrombosis Research and the European Journal of Pharmacology.
He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
