Legacy Heart Center Practice Overview

Our Practice

Legacy Heart Center is the Collin County leader in compassionate, state-of-the-art cardiovascular care. Our physicians are board certified in a wide range of specialties in diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular medicine. We strive to be easily accessible to our patients and their primary-care doctors, and we emphasize good communication and follow up. Our employees are key to delivering successful patient care and we value their contributions and opinions.

Our History

Legacy Heart Center was formed more than 20 years ago, when Dr. Waenard Miller and Dr. David Schwartz combined their practices to create the Texas Regional Heart Center. In anticipation of a planned expansion to a new facility in Plano’s Legacy Park in April of 2005, the medical practice renamed itself Legacy Heart Center in 2003. Legacy Heart Center has grown from two doctors 20 years ago to today’s staff of 15 physicians and more than 100 other health and administrative professionals who provide care for about 30,000 patients annually.

Our Specialties

Legacy Heart Center physicians and staff routinely perform noninvasive diagnostic services including:

  • CT Angiography
  • Calcium Scoring Test
  • Carotid Intima Media Thickness Test
  • Electrocardiograms (ECG)
  • Exercise stress testing
  • Nuclear stress testing that combines the treadmill portion of an exercise test with images recorded on computerized gamma cameras. For the pictures the patient receives a small dose of a radioactive substance (isotope), which the cameras can see.
  • Holter monitoring during which a lightweight monitor records the patients ECG over 24 hours
  • Routine echocardiograms as well as more the advanced “bubble” echocardiogram, in which air bubbles in a saline solution are injected intravenously to help track blood flow within the heart, and dobutamine stress echocardiograms, which uses the drug dobutamine to simulate a treadmill exercise test by raising the heart rate
  • Segmental pressure test, which evaluates blood flow to the legs
  • Carotid, aortic, venous and renal sonograms, which help determine blood flow in the neck, heart, legs and kidneys

Several of Legacy Heart Center’s doctors are also involved in invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac procedures including:

  • Heart catherization
  • Coronary and peripheral artery angioplasty, stent placement and laser atherectomy
  • Renal artery angioplasty and stent placement
  • Renal and peripheral vascular angiogram
  • Electrocardioversion
  • Transesophageal echocardiogram

Our Future

In 2005, Legacy Heart Center relocated to a new 43,000-square-foot medical office and laboratory complex in Plano’s Legacy Park. The new facility houses the area’s most extensive array of state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment options, including the GE LightSpeed Scanner which can capture exceptionally high resolution images of the heart and the coronaries in a few heartbeats.

Consolidating all our resources in one location helps us deliver on our commitment to make patient care convenient, accessible and unsurpassed in quality.

Collin County is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States, and for 20 years the highly skilled doctors and more than 100 other caring staff members have helped tens of thousands of people through some of life’s most difficult medical problems.

We’ve planned for the future so that you can look forward to yours.
